With the current situation, we are looking for someone who can work from home as well as in the office & community. With frequent travel throughout Calderdale.

This post is part funded by the European Social fund, from January 2021 to December 2023, the continuation of the post after that date will depend on alternative funding and activity being identified.

We have an excellent opportunity to join our Employment & Skills team in West Yorkshire, based in Calderdale, as a Community Employment Advisor.  The successful candidate will work with people to address any barriers they have currently, preventing them from accessing or securing paid employment. Whether that be training and development or personal barriers linked to their current circumstances.

  • This is a multi-faceted role offering an exciting opportunity to support people with multiple barriers to gain, maintain and sustain paid employment.
  • This position will suit a self-starter, who is able to use their own initiative, whilst also implementing evidence based employment methods.
  • You must be a team player; demonstrating reliability, constructive communication and playing an active part in team meetings – working towards a common goal in supporting the people of Calderdale into employment and training.
  • This role would be ideal for someone who takes an active interest in their local community and wants to support people from these communities not only into work, but also in retaining their job long term.
  • In this role you will be working with people to support their journey into work, providing support for CV development, job search, application writing, interview skills and confidence building.
  • You will be active in the recruitment of participants into the employability project, retain their engagement in the project & to encourage them in participating with workshops, job clubs as well as 1-2-1s.
  • You will actively promote our employability offer on social media and in the co-ordination of events.
  • You will be doing this to raise aspirations; challenging and enabling all programme participants to reach their full potential.

You will need the following key skills, knowledge & experience to work as a community employment advisor;

  • Experience of working with people aged 16-65 years from a variety of backgrounds, with diverse needs.
  • Demonstratable track record of placing people into paid employment
  • Able to demonstrate coaching/mentoring experience and influencing skills through previous work or social activities
  • The ability to plan and organise workload to meet required targets and deadlines
  • The ability to Build and maintain relationships with relevant Partners through regular telephone contact and visits as appropriate to ensure participants are aware of our services.
  • Evidence of working effectively with people who suffer from multiple barriers preventing them from engaging and participating on short and long-term interventions
  • Experience of problem solving, working on cases until completion & maintaining and managing a varied caseload
  • Understanding of the pressures and demands placed on people that are unemployed and from lower income backgrounds and being able to recognise the issues affecting people whom are out of work.
  • The ability to motivate, encourage and empower people; identifying barriers, realistic employment goals, social & training needs.
  • Willingness to travel borough wide (Calderdale)

This role is subject to a full enhanced DBS check, which Together Housing will support the ideal candidate through

A full driving license is also required, along with access to your own vehicle insured for business purposes; with travel to our other offices throughout the North of England.
