Newground is helping to #BuildTheFuture this National Apprenticeship Week!

Newground’s Employment and Skills Team helped to Build the Future after overseeing a recent project that kickstarted the careers of 14 young people.

February 8th – 14th 2021 is National Apprenticeship Week which explores the benefits of apprenticeships for building your career and this year’s theme is Build the Future!

In partnership with Procure Plus, the Employment and Skills People Team were able to offer training to 14 young people with the opportunity to start a three-year apprenticeship with Jackson and Jackson. The apprentice roles included; Tenant Liaison Officer, Heating and Ventilation Engineer, Project Management, Joinery and Labouring.

The training, which took place in Sheffield City Centre, included Level One Health and Safety training as well as being booked to take an exam for their Construction Skills Certification Scheme card. This meant the applicants would still be able to pursue a career in construction even if they didn’t secure an apprenticeship position with Jackson and Jackson at the end of the training.

Five applicants successfully secured an apprenticeship with Jackson and Jackson and will now begin their work placement working on a care home refurbishment project.
