I moved into the welfare to work field in 2002 after 10 years working in recruitment. I passed my adult training qualification and started working with unemployed adults in Bradford on a DWP contract. Since then, I’ve worked on most of the large government flagship contracts including New Deal, Flexible New Deal, and the Work Programme.
I’ve also worked on a number of ESF funded programmes across West Yorkshire, all with the aim of moving, usually long term clients, closer to the work place. I’ve worked with single parents, clients with health problems, ex-offenders, homeless clients, survivors of modern day slavery, refugees and young people. I’ve carried out roles including trainer, employment advisor, work experience placement officer, key worker, team leader and programme manager. I’ve worked on programmes funded by the ESF, the DWP and national charities.
On a personal note, I’m originally from Liverpool but have lived in West Yorkshire for 30 years this year; More than half my life!
