Hi I’m Dan and I coordinate the Great Outdoors Team.

Our work involves healthy lifestyle projects, which consists of walking and cycling activities within the Active Together project. These projects are delivered by James Kenyon across East Lancashire.

We also work with schools and other audiences on environmental and outdoor education projects, which consist of forest school, natural play, climate change or sustainability workshops, this work is delivered by Rachel Street throughout East Lancashire.

Our community garden site in Burnley hosts a bee apiary, wood yard and food growing beds. The site is visited by volunteers, community and school groups and is run by Emma Carter who is soon to be joined by a newly recruited project officer.

As a team we are also involved in the Greensleeves community allotment in Shadsworth which has been used on the Holiday and Hunger Activity Fund Project.

I also work on bushcraft and survival skills projects, and I hold the Institute for Outdoor Learning Bushcraft Certification. I’m also a qualified level 2 Mountain Bike instructor and hold outdoor first aid and safeguarding qualifications.

I’ve worked within outdoor education for nearly twenty years, ten years of which have been at Newground. Before that I worked in similar roles at the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and also outdoor centres and camps in France, USA and Canada.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family – mostly still outdoors though, exploring woodland and trails. If I’m not spending time outdoors then I like American Football and coach at a local club.
