Newground Together arranged a virtual ‘Meet the Employer’ day on Microsoft Teams to support Employability Day.
Meet an employer event
Featuring Stuart Smith, Recruitment Manger at Capita TVL in Darwen, it was a chance for clients of Newground Together to meet a local employer and ask questions on what they look for, any advice and to use the online video calling application for the first time.
Newground Together works closely with employers to support them on their recruitment needs, at no extra cost to that business. Capita is among the employersthat is currently working with Newground Together to support its employability projects.
Mark Stevenson, Senior Employment Advisor at Newground Together, introduced the session by saying: “This event is to help job seekers promote themselves to employers in the area via online calling, which may become the norm for the near future. We are grateful for Stuart taking the time to meet our clients and for the clients to be involved”.
Clients asked questions including “What are the values you look for in an employee?” “How many people does Capita employ?” and “What advice would you give someone who wants to work for Capita?”
Clients were also encouraged to ask further questions and one client did ask for an update on his application. This led to an interview being arranged for early the following week. He said the session really helped him get in front of the employer and he was able to promote himself in a way he possibly would not have been able to.
Rebecca Openshaw said: “The Microsoft Teams session with Newground and Capita helped address important recruitment queries and helped make the job hunting process less daunting. We can often feel overwhelmed, so it is important to remind ourselves that recruiters are rooting for us too.”
Another client Kaleda Yeasmin said: “Thank you for inviting me. I have really enjoyed it and got to learn lots of new things from others. Hope it will help me to get my job.”
And Brian Johnson said: “Was a very good meeting, hopefully could set some more up in the near future.”
Mark Stevenson added “The event was very successful and without running it, clients would find it hard during these times, to promote themselves. The questions they asked were informative and I am sure it will help them in their job search. It was great to hear that an interview was arranged on the back of this session.”
Stuart Smith said: “From my perspective it was good to see where candidates concerns are with interviews and assessments. Ideally we want to make the assessment process as relaxed as possible so we can assess the candidates naturally.
“It was also good to see good candidates interested in working for us at Capita, and able to provide some help in their efforts on finding them a role.”
We are keen to set more events like this up in the near future so if your business would like to be involved, then please contact Mark Stevenson at email@example.com or 07515 199197
