Marshall’s story

Marshall had been looking for employment for a while. He had a forklift truck license but was still receiving rejection letters which was making him lose hope.

This was when Marshall was referred by Together Housing’s Welfare Benefits Team to the Re:Vision project and met Mark Stevenson, a Senior Employment Advisor from Newground Together.

Mark and Marshall discussed what his employment goals were. Marshall also brought his CV so he could discuss it with Mark.

As an employment advisor, Mark attends meetings with local employers. He recently met with a representative for a PVCu supplier. After speaking with them, Mark thought the company would be a good fit for Marshall. Mark arranged for Marshall’s CV to be sent to the company and a telephone assessment was arranged.

It only took 24 hours for Marshall to be invited to a formal interview. Marshall worked with Mark remotely on interview techniques and what he should research to increase his chances of being successful.

Not long after the interview Marshall was offered the role and he was thrilled! He was excited to start working for the company after being taken on a site tour and the recruiter was really impressed during the interview.

Marshall said following his job offer, “Thank you Mark for all you have done. I am really excited to start. You have been a massive help.”

Mark said “It is great to see how quickly someone’s luck with work can turn around. Marshall was signed up to the Revision project to aid his chances of securing work and came with a great CV. After some job searching and recent close working with the company, he was successful in obtaining the role. He will be an asset to them and I look forward to keeping in touch with him and watching him grow in the company.”

Karen Gowers, a Welfare Benefits Advisor at Together Housing, said “I referred Marshall to Newground after finding out about the Newground Together projects available, and the help which could be offered.

This employment opportunity, and the help provided by Mark has turned Marshall’s life around, he has gone from sleeping all day as he had nothing to get up for, to having a reason to get out of bed, and the motivation to make a success of himself. He is now looking forward and planning for the future.”
