Get the balance right – Upcycle to a free bicycle this Christmas

Families in Lancashire can take home a bike for Free when attending a workshop on bike maintenance.

This festive season many families will want to make Christmas more affordable whilst also reducing their carbon footprint – Upcycling a bicycle is the way to go.

Newground Together, part of Together Housing Group, is running a series of workshops in Lancashire. Parents and guardians can attend a workshop and learn new skills whilst taking home a bike for FREE. Workshops are open to anyone aged 18 and over and currently not in employment.

The workshops, which are being supported by Active Lancashire and the European Social Fund, will take place on:

  • Saturday 11th December at The Hub in Shadsworth, Blackburn from 10am – 12pm
  • Thursday 16th December at The Annexe in Stubbylee Park, Bacup from10am-12pm
  • Friday 17th December at North Valley Community Centre, Colne from 10am – 12pm

James Kenyon, Newground Together’s Active Spaces Officer, said: “This time of the year can be stressful for many families. People increasingly want to reduce their environmental impact but are also conscious of the creeping cost of Christmas. Luckily, a bicycle is a present that never fails to bring a smile and at the same time it is a sustainable piece of equipment, in all ways.”

“These workshops give you the skills needed to be able to maintain your child’s bike yourself, avoiding expensive future repairs. We also welcome bike donations – get in touch with us if you are looking for a new home for your bike or want to book onto one of our workshops.”

Newground will be taking bike donations at the following locations:

  • The Hub in Shadsworth, Blackburn, BB1 2JB
  • The Annexe in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, OL13 9RD
  • Prospect House in Blackburn, BB1 1JD
