Activities at Offshoots include:

  • Seed sowing and learning about growing
  • Planting and general gardening
  • Basic carpentry and woodwork
  • Learning about bee friendly gardening
  • Site maintenance
  • Processing green (fresh) wood
  • Taking photographs
  • Exploring the garden and wildlife
  • Playing in our Mud Kitchen area
  • Gaining valuable work experience

The site is made up of growing beds, polytunnels, a traditional lean-to greenhouse, a timber yard, a woodwork cabin, children’s mud kitchen play area, beehives with a viewing area and lots of beautiful corners to explore and relax in. Here, you can learn about and practise gardening for bees to improve pollination and environmental sustainability. And play a part in the making of local honey.

Join us to learn and develop simple woodwork skills. We use recycled resources, basic carpentry and joinery and green woodwork using offcuts of fresh wood from the woods in Towneley Park. We use traditional skills and hand tools.

Offshoots can help us reconnect with nature, develop our health and well-being while working together to achieve positive outcomes for all. Our aim is to reach and engage with a wide range of people of all backgrounds in Burnley and surrounding areas to encourage sustainable, resilient lifestyles within our homes and communities.

During the pandemic the site has been closed to the general public – opening to just a skeleton set of volunteers on a rota basis.

As restrictions ease we are really excited to be working on a programme of events, which with restrictions allowing will start to run from July.

If you would like to be kept updated about these events and activities please register your interest in the contact form below.
