Do you have a passion to support people and communities in connecting with nature and improving wellbeing?  Do you want to create new and exciting environmental activities for a diverse range of people?

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Project Officer to join our team based at Offshoots Community Garden in Burnley. You will work closely with the Offshoots Senior Project Officer and Team Coordinator to develop and implement projects and initiatives within the Sustainable Communities department of Newground Together.

This permanent position is well suited to an individual looking to advance their career in community engagement and volunteer development, in an exceptional outdoor setting. You will gain hands-on experience in a supportive workplace.  The post will work both at Offshoots community garden and out in the wider local community, on initiatives which improve wellbeing helping people to connect with the natural world.

Newground Together is a registered charity which aims to empower people to create sustainable communities that are connected, resilient, healthy and prosperous.  Working across the North of the UK, and a part of the Together Housing Group, Newground Together has been delivering social change within communities in the north of England for around 30 years.  We have a strong history in environmental and community projects.

Role and Responsibilities:

At Offshoots we strive to engage visitors and participants in thought and action on sustainable lifestyles using Permaculture principles within our key activities of horticulture, food growing, beekeeping, bee-friendly gardening and woodwork.  We are committed to helping people improve their wellbeing, and engagement in these activities is known to help with this, positively affecting both physical and mental wellbeing.

The role of the Project Officer is:

  1. Supporting local communities to connect with outdoor spaces, leading interventions to affect positive change within communities and community members
  2. Developing sustainable relationships with a variety of local community groups and educational establishments.
  3. Creating new and exciting quality volunteering and placement opportunities for environmental activities.
  4. Assisting in the delivery and enhancement of measurable outcomes, objectives and keeping detailed records.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a fully enhanced DBS check as well
